A Breathing Class?

A Class in Breathing

Many people are surprised when they hear that my area of expertise, and my passion, is teaching people about the art and science of breathing.  This surprise is understandable because, for most people, breathing is entirely unconscious and taken for granted.  After all, you’re alive, therefore you breathe, and so what else is there to know?  What could possibly be the big deal?
The trouble with the prevailing view of breathing is that it misses the forest for the trees.  There’s so much more to breathing than basic survival.  Breathing is not just about living, it’s also about aliveness.  Breathing plays a major, ongoing role in determining how; alive, vital, balanced and relaxed you actually feel from one moment to the next.  A course of breath retraining shows how breath enlivens you from the inside out, enabling you to experience more of life and activating new ways of engaging and relating to your daily life.  Each time you take a breath, you can literally enter into a new world.
Breath retraining classes lay the groundwork for understanding how your habits of breathing can ultimately make or break your overall wellness.  By learning to breathe well, you’ll also begin to feel better on a physical level.  Relaxation research indicates that proper breathing can help ward off disease by making people less vulnerable to viral infections and by lowering blood pressure and improving cardiovascular health. The breath retraining process shows how the natural, preferable breathing rhythms can greatly enhance your health and performance while also lessening respiratory challenges such as asthma, anxiety, allergies, sleep apnea, snoring, eczema, emphysema, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia.  Within only a few days of practicing the breathing exercises, most people report having significantly fewer symptoms of respiratory discord; many individuals also report having a clear bodily sense of how to best support their health through appropriate breathing.
By the time you finish a course in breath retraining, I predict that you will be breathing in a new and more vital way.  At the very least, you will be more aware of your own breathing patterns, and you’ll feel inspired to shift into a healthier mode of breathing. My desire is that breath retraining ultimately will serve as the gateway to a more inspired way of being in the world.
